Can a man's interests make his wife lose attraction?

I asked earlier and could use some more answers please, I apologize if you've already read this. I met my wife back in school and I was into these things then. I enjoy reading and talking about things like politics or world events and sometimes literature. I'm also into reading and writing poetry. I've always enjoyed ideas and art. My wife has always been a little put off by this stuff but I had always thought it was just an annoyance. But for the last few months she's said a few things that make me think these things are just somehow unmanly or weak. Various comments and of course not every day, sometimes about younger guys who play sports or are outdoorsy. Also, I have a solid professional career and enjoy it, but at one point I joked that I should have become a mechanic because its a job that always is needed. She basically said that I would be much hotter if I did that kind of thing. Am I turning my wife off with my interests and career? Do women sometimes prefer men who work with their hands or otherwise are athletic and active? I'm having trouble with this because we met very young and this is the first I have heard any of this.
